NATURE, NURTURE, and RESILIENCE
It's such a guilty pleasure to binge-watch a newly popular Korean drama and neglect the weekly readings I'm supposed to read. The title of the series is Start-Up. Start-up means a "company or project undertaken by an entrepreneur to seek, develop, and validate a scalable economic model" (Wikipedia, 2020). The series tells the story of a girl named Dal-Mi competing with her sister to grow a Start-up successfully. I am intrigued by the development of these two sisters, Dalmi & Injae, who were born from the same parents and grew up into two very different people.
Infant Care in Indonesia
Infant sleeping practices differ around the world. I wanted to know how different it is compared to infant care practice in the USA. So I tried to get some parents in Indonesia to contribute and share their experiences caring for their infants. In this article, I will explain the result of my brief questionnaire with 300 mothers in Indonesia. The questionnaire was done through Instagram-Story, making use of the poll & open-ended questions features
START UP-SCAFFOLDING
In one of the scenes, Dal-Mi and her father were playing in the playground. Dal-Mi was playing on a swing, and she fell. Her father almost would not let her play on the swing anymore to keep her safe from the accident. But Dal-Mi asked if his father would cover the ground underneath the swings with sand. The father did it. With the sand-covered ground, Dal-Mi could confidently swing without having to be afraid she would fall. If she fell, the sand would protect her from getting hurt.
THE EMOTIONAL LIFE OF A TODDLER
Toddlerhood is a moment where parents often come to an expert asking what's wrong with their child. They might think that a spirit possessed their child for throwing endless tantrums, or their child was just mad. Parents' ultimate goal in toddlerhood is to prevent and get rid of children's tantrums. They have tried many tips & tricks they found on social media, they googled “how to stop child's tantrum,” they would do anything to silence their child.
MULTILINGUALISM
The fact that many Indonesians speak another local language without even trying intrigues me. Why do we bother so much about how we teach English to a child? Why are we so afraid of the implications of raising bilingual children while we are bilingual nations?
